Introduction (Geography)

In the previous blog, I shared my experience with the beautiful valley of Madaklasht valley, now I am going to explain the unseen beauty of the Hindu Kush Mountains and how these beautiful mountains play a keynote role in the tourism of Pakistan. This Himalayan region stretches over 35000 kilometers through eight countries including Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Nepal, and Myanmar. The Hindu Kush Mountains are one of the great and most important water towers which are the source of ten largest sources in Asia. These rivers provide drinking water as well as irrigation, energy, and industry.

Tourism

As I mentioned in the previous blog post that the local Pakistani people rarely go there and are unaware of these beautiful mountains. When I visited there and saw the beauty of these Himalayan Mountains I realized that there are a lot of tourism opportunities here for the winter sports festival. There were no hotels in the Madaklasht valley and surrounding to stay and the town of Madaklasht was deprived of basic facilities such as roads and infrastructure because most of the national and international winter sports festivals are conducted in Swat, Galiyat, and Kalash Valley. I had a 3-day stay in Madaklasht valley and we went hiking where I saw the largest skiing area on these beautiful mountains. I was not familiar with skiing but I took part in it with the local people and had a lot of fun which I cannot describe in words. And there are a lot of opportunities for other types of snow sports such as Snowboarding, Alpine skiing, Ice Hockey, Biathlon, and Cross-country skiing.

I am glad that the former prime minister of Pakistan Imran Khan announced in 2020 that the next time international skiing festival will be held at Madaklasht valley then we saw that the international skiing festival of 2021 held at Madaklasht valley instead of Malam Jabba Swat.

Climate

If we talk about climate this Himalayan region separates one major climate zone of Asia from another, and the range’s climate shows great deviations. The mountains of Swat Kohistan are surrounded by the area of the rain-bearing summer monsoon winds, and most of the eastern Hindu Kush. In addition, Forests cover many southern slopes of the eastern and central Hindu Kush, where it snows the most in the winter and irregular rainfall from the summer monsoon.
